Liberty County Shooting

Eric Lee Elliott, who is 70, has been charged in the shooting death of 60-year-old William Duncan Womack.

The men were neighbors, and they've had a long-running dispute over Womack's dog running around the neighborhood. That dispute finally became a heated brawl that ended with Womack's death.

FOX 7 Austin reports that according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Elliot was doing some yard work when Womack's dog went into his yard. Elliott saw Womack's stepdaughter, and threatened to kill the dog if they didn't keep it out of his yard. The stepdaughter then went inside to tell Womack what had happened.

Womack then went to the street to talk with Elliot. According to witnesses, after he walked into the street, Elliot kicked Womack in the leg, then pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his waistband and fired, hitting Womack in the stomach.

Witnesses told police that while Womack's wife and stepdaughter screamed for help, Elliott put the hand-gun in his truck and continued with his yard work as if nothing had happened.

Eric Lee Elliott Charged with Murder

First responders were called to the scene and found Womack lying in the street. They began live-saving measures, and he was eventually airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Elliot has been arrested, charged with murder, and is being held on $1 million bond in the Liberty County Jail.
