Could you imagine feeding 100 people 100 meals for the whole summer? I'm a mother of one, and feeding him breakfast, lunch, and dinner during summer break is a lot. That's nothing compared to the Killeen Independent School District's summer feeding program.

Killeen ISD Details Impact of Summer Meal Program

According to Killeen ISD, the program served 85,860 meals this summer, helping children and teenagers continue receiving nutritious breakfasts and lunches while school was out. This is a phenomenal accomplishment by KISD, especially after expanding the program and adding 11 community partner locations.

What Programs Are Involved?

The district made meals more accessible for families across Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville by partnering with the Boys & Girls Club, Armed Services YMCA, Extreme Cheer, and other community organizations. This is what it's all about: making sure our children are cared for even when school isn't in session. I know a lot of children who only receive regular meals because they attend school, so the fact that KISD offers this program truly is a blessing for many families.

Apply For Free Or Reduced-Price Meals

Executive Director of Communications and Marketing Karen Rudolph stated, "We know many families count on these meals during the summer, so it's important that we're able to be there for them." She also said, "Adding more community locations this year made it easier for families to get the meals their children need, and that's something we're proud of."If families are looking to receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year, they will need to complete an application to determine their eligibility for those benefits.
