The Price of Progress: Belton and Temple Residents Weigh In on School Bonds
Continuously seeking to improve school districts is a common topic of discussion not only within the schools themselves but also within the community. When we talk about room for improvement, we usually refer to ways to better support students and staff for a successful school year. However, that won’t be the main focus of conversation this November, according to KWTX. Many Central Texas school districts will be asking voters to approve multimillion-dollar bonds. The Temple and Belton Independent School District will be among them. These districts are aiming not only to improve their schools but also to enhance school security specifically.

Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of Temple Independent School District, stated that parents have been the primary architects of these plans. “What I’ve done is take their designs and collaborate with various community groups to gather input and consider possible revisions,” he explained. He also mentioned that the district is growing and is expected to add 500 more students in the next four years, making this bond especially important.

Dr. Malinda Golden, superintendent of the Belton Independent School District, said the total bond could amount to around $161 million if all four proposed packages remain unchanged and are approved by voters. She emphasized that the bond aims to improve learning spaces in aging facilities, address safety and security across the district, and meet programmatic needs on their campuses. Dr. Gordon highlighted that these needs extend beyond the schools themselves, impacting the entire community, which is equally important. While we won’t know the outcome until November, we will be sure to keep the public informed.
