Icy weather conditions have made driving a particularly dangerous exercise today, and if you've been fortunate enough not to have to make any trips today, TxDOT traffic cams can give you a (perched) bird's-eye view of what's going on out there.

For instance, Southbound I-35 traffic between Waco and Bruceville-Eddy has been moving at a crawl for much of the day. Take a look at two images I pulled from traffic cams just minutes ago (as of this article's publication).

As you can see, things weren't looking much better in Bellmead.

Then there's this view from Lacy Lakeview that's obscured by ice on the camera!

Hopefully your commute doesn't take you south through these areas, but if it does, be prepared to move slowly and give other drivers plenty of space. If you can find a safe alternative route, please do so. The keyword there is "safe". I-35 may be a mess, but at least it's been treated. Chances are your favorite backroad hasn't, so proceed with extreme caution and give yourself plenty of time to get where you're going.

Fortunately, I-35 conditions through the Temple and Belton area are much clearer, though you should still be extra careful along the roadway.

I don't have any traffic cam photos of I-14 to share, but you know how crazy people drive on it even in warm, dry weather, so keep that in mind when you're on your commute and, again, give yourself plenty of time to get where you're going. Nothing is worth losing your life over.

Also keep in mind that Killeen's WS Young Drive bridge has been closed.

The icy conditions have caused a number of problems, but thankfully we haven't experienced anything as horrific as this morning's pile-up in Fort Worth that involved 133 cars and took the lives of 6 people.

If everyone's smart and careful out there, we can get through this without that kind of heartbreak.
