Is The Texas Power Grid Keeping Up All The New Residents Coming To The State?
The Texas Power Grid is always under close watch by many in the state. Due to previous issues during winter storms, some wonder how the future will play out. The growth of Texas is showing no signs of stopping soon either.
For this who didn't live in the state during the weather event, this is how it was described by some in Texas:
With the state growing in size day by day, parts are being examined to make sure they are up to the task of handling more residents. One of the parts does indeed include the power grid. But, at the time of writing, it doesn't appear that the grid is ready at all for it.
Per a University of Houston Professor, Ed Hirs, the state has a lot of work to do if they wish to maintain the standard Texans expect.
How Dire Is The Situation With The Texas Power Grid?
As reported by Texas Scorecard, Hirs was not fond of the current power situation:
“In 2002, Texas dispensed with a reliable end-to-end electricity supply chain that the consumer could count on in the heat of summer and cold of winter...It has been replaced by a 100% government operated grid under which consumers pay more, get less, and no one can be held accountable.”
In addition, those worried about rolling blackouts in the state might not life Hirs examination of what could happen if another winter storm occurs:
“A weaker storm—equivalent to 2022’s Winter Storm Elliott—has a 50% probability of triggering rolling blackouts...And there is no assurance that rolling blackouts can be executed, risking a widescale grid failure.”
Only time will tell what happens and what adjustments will be made to the Texas Power Grid.
