For some areas, May through July brings summertime vibes—but unfortunately, that’s not the case here in Texas. Texas weather is notoriously unpredictable, with scorching hot days, humid summer nights, and, oddly enough, tornadoes. That’s why I take tornado season seriously. And not to sound dramatic, but tornadoes in Texas can get scary, really fast.

We’ve already seen thunderstorms, severe showers, and even hailstorms with golf ball-sized hail during a time you’d normally expect nothing but fun in the sun. Just last year, tornadoes tore through Central Texas so badly that some businesses had to rebuild from the ground up. It was a terrifying time for many of us—we had never seen tornadoes that aggressive before.

According to AccuWeather, forecasters are predicting that this year could be one of the most active tornado seasons in the last decade. Even though tornado season typically runs through February, March, and April, it seems we should brace ourselves for more extreme weather well into the summer. So keep those weather alerts turned on, stay observant, and be ready. We can’t stop Mother Nature, but we can be prepared for what she brings—especially here in Texas.
