Summer's a great time to catch up on all those DIY and home improvement projects you may have been putting off.

Aside from the nice weather, there's also the fact that the kids are out of school and can help you. You can teach them some handy skills and spend time together. It's a win-win.

If you don't have all the tools you need, try visiting the Temple Tool Library before you go buy them. You could save some money and hassle.

Yes, you read that correctly: Temple has a tool library. In fact, it's been around for a while now. It was recently closed due to COVID-19 precautions, but it's back open now.

Any Temple resident 18 or older with a valid Temple Public Library card can check out tools. You'll need to register for a membership as well. You can do it in person at the Tool Library or online at templetx.gov/2453/Register. Tools can then be checked out for up to 7 days.

They've got everything from measuring tapes to saws, ladders, and even soldering guns. You can check out a full list of what's available here, and you can ask them about reserving tools.

You'll find the Temple Tool Library in the old Temple Public Library building at 101 N. Main St. (BTW, as nice as the modern library is, I really miss that old building.)

If you have any questions about the Temple Tool Library, give them a call at (254) 298-5670 or email tools@templetx.gov.

I'm pretty sure they take donations as well, so if you've got any working tools in decent condition that are cluttering up your garage or workshop, consider asking if they could put them to good use.
