Joni Sledge, founding member of ‘Sister Sledge’ has died
Joni Sledge, founding member of 'Sister Sledge' was found dead in her Arizona home on Friday.
The four sisters formed the group in 1971 in Philadelphia.
But it wasn't until her group, (comprised of all sisters) met Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from the group Chic, when they took off.
They recorded their now platinum album "We Are Family" in 1979 which produced two of the biggest hits in R&B and Disco music of all time.
New schoolers may not know that Will Smith jacked this hit for his 1998 classic "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" it's Sister Sledge with their disco classic "He's The Greatest Dancer":
Their biggest hit earned them a Grammy nomination, led to their album selling 1 million copies, made a song you can't ever get out of your head and basically created a worldwide anthem for women!
