The Confederacy takes another loss.

After months of debate from both sides of the issue, the Belton City Council on Tuesday night voted unanimously, 6-0, to rename Confederate Park according to KCEN.

The Council will now assign the task of renaming the park to the Belton Parks Board who will create a 10 member committee that will be responsible for submitting five options to rename the park. The board's next meeting is set for August 5th.

Belton still has other remnants of the Confederacy that are still up for debate including a confederate statue which stands at the Bell County Courthouse where there have been multiple protests from those who would like to see the statue taken down or moved while others want it to remain. The statue was the subject of a Bell County Commissioners Meeting on July 15 where no final decision was made.

The 16.5 acre park near downtown will now have a new name while the debate will likely rage on.
