YUM: Have You Tried Texas National Drink?
When people think of food and drinks from the great state of Texas, chili and margaritas often come to mind. While we Texans certainly love our salted-rim margaritas and hearty bowls of chili, you might be surprised to learn that margaritas aren’t designated as the official national drink of the state, shocker trust I know. The national drink might leave you surprised I know when I first realized this drink was known as the drink of choice, I could not believe it.
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF CHOICE HERE IN THE LONE STAR STATE?
Although it's not officially stamped, we Texans proudly claim Dr Pepper as our national beverage. Born in 1885 in Waco, Texas, Dr Pepper deserves this title. Its sweet flavor is accented by delightful hints of vanilla, citrus, and a nutty undertone, which many Texans adore. I’m not a fan of licorice, yet I can still detect it in this warm, spiced drink.
THIS IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF TEXAS WAS BORN
Dr Pepper was created by Charles Alton, a pharmacist in Waco, who enjoyed blending various fruit syrup flavors in his drugstore. After much experimentation, he finally crafted the recipe that became Dr Pepper. It has always ranked among my top three favorite drinks, and whether it's due to its exceptional taste or my Texan pride, the next time you enjoy a Dr Pepper, remember it all started right here in Texas.
