To wear a mask or not to wear a mask is the question that students and faculty are facing at Belton ISD.

According to KWTX, Belton ISD is making wearing a mask indoors optional beginning May 25th. The Board of Trustees met Monday for a special session, where they approved the administration's recommendations to make wearing a mask inside optional.

Superintendent Matt Smith released a press release stating, "This evening, I ask families to engage in thoughtful discussion regarding your decision to wear masks for the remainder of this year. I encourage you to contact your primary care physician and ask for guidance appropriate for your student and your family for the final 11 days of instruction."

The approval for the optional mask was in response to Governor Abott's Executive Order that was issued on May 18, which prohibits governmental entities in Texas — including counties, cities, school districts, public health authorities, or government officials — from requiring or mandating mask-wearing.

With only 11 days left of the school year, Superintendent Smith plans to continue Belton ISD's contact tracing practices and notifications. He encourages parents to contact their primary care physician to ask for guidance for the last days of school.

To wear a mask or not to wear a mask could be a hard decision for some, but to be honest I would keep me and mine in a mask. What's 11 days with one when we've gone an entire school year?

I encourage you to be safe and make the right decision for your family.
