WalletHub has released the results of their latest study for the best and worst summer travel destinations.

Texas Vacation

Wallethub ranked 100 of the largest U.S. metros and found the "cheapest U.S. destinations that are also the easiest to reach."  While heading out of state might be ideal for some, finding a city that's close enough to drive to might be a bit more friendly on the bank account.

There are plenty of choices right here in the Texas to do exactly that, but two Texas cities scored very well on Wallethub's rankings. Let's take a look at the Top 10.

All of these cities on the list are great vacation destinations with plenty of options for activities, attractions, and travel costs. Some ranked higher than others in different categories, but overall you can't go wrong with any of the top 10.

2. Washington D.C.
3. Tampa, FL
4. Austin, TX
5. Salt Lake City, UT
6. Los Angeles, CA
7. Honolulu, HI
8. Minneapolis, MN
9. Cincinnati, OH
10. San Antonio, TX

Austin scored well in attractions, weather, and activities, while San Antonio scored well in local costs, travel costs, & hassle's and attractions. Both cities are within a couple hours or less of drive time and easy to plan a full weekend around.

Looking for a different place to visit in Texas? El Paso finished at 21 on the list with top marks in weather and safety. Dallas-Fort Worth landed 31 on the list, Houston 58, Corpus Christi 62 and McAllen, TX at 92.

Each of these cities offers something different depending on what you're looking for, but with inflation and gas prices as high as they are and no sign of relief anytime soon, visiting local might no be a bad idea. Fortunately, there are some great choices less than 3 hours away.
