Killeen Is Offering Free Emergency Response Training for Teen

The older my child gets, the more I realize that, of course, education is a top priority, but he's also going to need a trade or practical skill in life. Right now, the City of Killeen Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is allowing teens to participate in the Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training. This free program helps residents and teens in the area learn life-saving emergency preparedness through a hands-on disaster response experience.

Give Your Teen Real-World Skills: Killeen Accepting CERT Applications

Teens ages 14 to 17 can participate in this three-day program, taking place August 14–16 at the Killeen Emergency Operations Center, located at 9200 Trimmier Street. Participants will learn valuable skills through hands-on training in fire safety, basic medical operations, utilities, light search and rescue, and disaster psychology. The course concludes with a disaster simulation exercise in which participants apply their newly learned skills in realistic emergency scenarios.

The training schedule is:

Friday, August 14: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 15: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 16: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
