As it gets hotter and hotter in Central Texas, we ask that you guys make sure to be adequately prepared when it comes to avoiding the heat. Maybe that goes without saying, but even natives tend to underestimate the Texas heat sometimes and things are getting nasty out there.

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE!

According to our partners at KWTX-TV, an Excessive Heat Warning will be extended through 9PM Tuesday, July 12. The weather team over there tells us that last month tied as the third hottest June on record. We all lived through it, and I don't think anyone would argue it wasn't blazing hot.

This past weekend was the hottest of the year so far, and we're not out of it yet.

We're looking at an average heat index of 110F this week, and KWTX reports that our best precipitation chances are a measly 20% on Wednesday.

To sum it up, it's too hot out there and there's no relief in sight!

STAY COOL, CENTRAL TEXAS

This should go without saying, but it's extremely important that people stay hydrated first and foremost. I cannot stress that enough. Drink plenty of water, and keep sipping on it throughout the day. It's easy to get busy and not think about it, but you don't want to be stuck somewhere in this gross heat and humidity and instantly regret not gulping down some water when you had a chance.

Try to wear loose, breezy clothes as much as you can, and if you can cover your skin using a light hoodie or umbrella, you definitely should.

PROTECT YOUR PETS

This past weekend the temperatures were so hot, that my son and I actually did an experiment and dropped an egg on concrete to see if we would fry. Well guess what, Central Texas - the egg cooked.

That reminds me - if the sidewalk is too hot for your bare feet, it's also too hot for your pet's feet. If you take your dog for a walk, don't be cruel and make them walk on hot pavement. Keep them in some cool grass, and don't push them too much. Also make sure that if they stay outdoors, they have plenty of water and shade.

Please remain safe out there and make sure to follow the proper precautions during this summer heat wave. For an example do not leave your children in the car or your pets, and try to avoid being outside as much as possible during this brutal weather. This is most definitely not the week for it.

At this point, we're basically roommates with the Sun, and he's crankin' up the heat.
