Permitless Carry Is the Law in Texas Now, But Training Is Still a Must

Here we are on the other side of September 1st, and I'm sure there are people who have questions about the new laws that have gone into effect here in Texas - especially the most controversial ones, like constitutional permitless carry.

As of September 1st, Texas became the most populous state in the country to enact permitless carry when House Bill 1927 went into effect, allowing Texans over the age of 21 with a clean record who have not served a sentence for a felony or a domestic violence conviction to carry handguns without a license or training.

No one in the state of Texas is required to take online courses in gun safety.

Yes, you read that right.

According to Fox News, now that the new law has officially gone into effect, it does not change where guns are banned. The list still includes jails and prisons, schools, hospitals, airports, polling places, bars, and sporting events.

While I am for the right to bear arms, I think those who are bearing arms should fully know how to operate them.

We wouldn't want anyone who doesn't know what they are doing handling a firearm and someone gets hurt or killed as a result, right? Gun ownership is a responsibility, and if you're carrying to protect yourself or others, you really should get the training, even if you're not legally obligated to.
