Killeen Junior Goes Above and Beyond for Elementary Schoolers
The saying “it takes a village” is something I have always believed in and stood by, and according to KCENT, a Killeen student at Shoemaker High School feels the same way.

Unexpected Kindness: Why a Killeen High Schooler is Focusing on Elementary Hygiene
Thomas Salazar, a KISD student, came up with an idea to spread cheer during the holiday break by preparing hygiene bags for every fifth grader at Reese’s Creek Elementary School just before the break, according to the district. With the help of his mother, who is also an educator at Reese’s Creek, Salazar was able to deliver the bags to students right before the break.
A Growing Movement: Could This Killeen Student's Hygiene Project Go District-Wide?
This is one of those stories that truly reminds us that there are still very good people in the world, and that good people are raising good people. KISD stated that this is a great example of students leading with purpose and KISD staff supporting meaningful opportunities for others, and I couldn’t agree more. This is why it is so important to set a positive example, show kindness to one another, and demonstrate integrity—because someone is always watching. Students like Thomas Salazar prove just how impactful those values can be, and I’m sure the Reese’s Creek students are grateful.
