A Communication Crisis: Killeen ISD Parents Frustrated by Ongoing Phone Outages
Earlier today, Killeen parents received a notice from KISD stating that phone service was once again out of order across the district. The message informed parents that, unfortunately, due to the inconvenience, phone services likely would not be restored until Friday morning. Now, of course, you can’t necessarily fault the district for a minor mishap—technical difficulties happen. However, many parents are becoming increasingly frustrated and concerned.

KISD's Communication Gap: Killeen Parents Fed Up with Unanswered Calls
Last year, the district decided that students would no longer be allowed to use their phones on campus. While some staff members and parents disagreed with this decision, the rules were established and expected to be followed. Still, parents argue that—even with such rules in place—communication services must at least be available for safety reasons.
Killeen Parents Fear the Worst Amid KISD's Unstable Phone System
For example, God forbid there’s an emergency like a tornado warning, a school shooting, or even just a child becoming seriously ill. Parents want to be informed immediately and know what actions the school is taking in response. So far, no additional communication has been sent out to explain how the district plans to prevent this from happening again. That said, I do believe KISD is doing the best it can under the circumstances. That’s why it’s so important for the district and the community to work together to create an open, respectful line of communication. Only then can we begin to address and ease these concerns in a meaningful way.
