How the Texas SNAP Ban Redefines "Medical Necessity" for Thousands

The reasoning behind this change is to help avoid health risks such as diabetes. It’s also worth noting that people who already have these conditions may need easier access to healthier food options. Although some Texans are not happy about no longer being able to purchase sweet treats, many others feel that the change is necessary. At the end of the day, the SNAP program is intended to help families buy essential food—not candy.

I also feel that if SNAP benefits are used for items outside of providing meals for a family, it can seem like the program is being misused.
