Harvey Officially Upgraded to Hurricane, Mandatory Evacuations Underway
It's been 9 years since a Hurricane made a direct impact on Texas, but that's about to change tonight as Tropical Storm Harvey has reached Hurricane strength and will impact the Texas coastline on Thursday night according to our news partner KWTX.
The coastal cities of Port Aransas and Aransas Pass issued evacuation orders Thursday and a hurricane warning was issued Thursday for an area from Port Mansfield to Matagorda. Harvey’s sustained winds have reached 80 miles per hour, but forecasters predicted earlier Thursday that Harvey would a Category 3 storm with wind speeds near 125 miles per hour, powerful enough to cause major damage to homes, uproot trees and produce widespread power outages.
