Legendary diva Diana Ross was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 American Music Awards. With her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross handling hosting duties, it was truly a family affair for the First Lady of Motown.
"What do you get when you cross a chart-topping singer, breathtaking beauty, captivating actress, trailblazing style icon, record-breaking pioneer, legendary megastar, international superstar, and an all-around boss? Everybody, you get my mom. Miss Diana Ross," son Evan Ross shared on stage.
Celebrated for her iconic career in music, Ross performed a medley of hits, spanning her illustrious career. Taylor Swift sent a message of gratitude and reverence to Ross. Even Barack and Michelle Obama made a video appearance prior to Ross taking the stage.
“People from the ages of 8 to 80 know every word to Diana Ross’ songs and her artistry resonates with folks of every race, background and walk of life,” Michelle said in the clip. "And today her voice is still as pure, her beauty is undeniable and her showmanship is on point as back when she was a Supreme.”
Diana Ross took the stage and ran through some of her classics, including "Ease On Down the Road" and "I'm Coming Out," before inviting her family and friends to share in the moment onstage.
"C'mon, Smokey, come up--c'mon, B.G.," she said, inviting Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy to the stage, alongside her family.
"With no apology and all of your power, with integrity, grace and generosity, you blazed a way," daughter Rhonda Ross Kendrick shared. "Not just for us your children, not just for women, not just for black folk or singers or performers or entrepreneurs, but for all of us!"
