Healing Invisible Wounds: This Copperas Cove Veteran is Gifting Confidence, One Wig at a Time
When I think about veterans helping veterans, Shanda Scott, owner and operator of Gifted Hands Spa and Salon in Copperas Cove, located at 117 West Ave. D, is exactly who comes to mind. I had the opportunity to meet Shanda at The Carlson Law Firm’s Ninth Annual Food Truck Rally for Veterans Day, and our conversation was absolutely astonishing. Learning about her story and how she started her business was truly inspiring.

Why Is This Veteran Giving Away Wigs for Free? The Answer Will Inspire You
Shanda is not just a business owner—she is a miracle worker. She offers free consultations, and if you’re a veteran experiencing hair loss, you can receive a wig at no cost. For many women, our hair is deeply tied to our identity. Whether the cause is alopecia, PTSD, anxiety, or hormonal changes, every woman—including our veteran women—deserves to feel beautiful.

Shanda shared that her talent and passion for hair came at a very young age. As a child, her mother told her that she had “a gift in her hands,” which sparked the vision for her salon. But Shanda knew it would take more than just a dream—she had to take a journey. She did extensive research and made sure to enroll not only in cosmetology school but specifically in non-surgical hair-loss training. She has now been an expert in that field for 15 years and a hairstylist for 35 years.

She explained that although it is unfortunate that so many women struggle with hair loss due to mental illness, cancer, or other circumstances, she loves seeing her clients smile, feel good about themselves, and love their reflection in the mirror. Moments like these fill her with purpose and fulfillment.

I received a statement from Shanda, and this is what she said:
“I attribute this success entirely to God, family, mentors, friends, and clients, who gifted me with the ability to make people feel beautiful and confident about their hair. As a VA vendor, I continue to give back to the community, where veterans receive a wig at no cost. I am the proud owner of Gifted Hands Salon in Copperas Cove, where I continue to use my talents to serve and uplift my community.”
