The Cove Theater Announces Permanent Closure This Month

I remember being a little girl, driving from the city of Killeen all the way out to Copperas Cove to watch vintage movies and attend the events the theater offered. Keep in mind, this building had been open since the 1950s, and even though it originally closed in 2009, when it finally got the chance to reopen in 2021, it really was something special. Not only was the city of Copperas Cove excited about it, but the good people of Central Texas were happy to see it return.

This Is The Final Farewell

Recently, I was on social media and noticed they had posted that, now that the building is officially closing, they were going to put all of their inventory on sale. It truly just broke my heart. Seeing nostalgic buildings such as the Cove Theatre go away sometimes feels like a little piece of your childhood is being taken away from you. I know that sounds dramatic, but it really does. A lot of us have made so many memories at this particular theater, so seeing it go breaks my heart.

Why Copperas Cove’s Historic Downtown Theater is Closing Forever

KWTX stated that the upkeep was much harder for the new owners, and on top of that, the lease was set to end at the end of the month. They also said that the owners have another establishment, Herb & Earnie’s Family Diner, as well as Main Street Mercantile, so right now they’re planning to put all of their energy back into the businesses that are already thriving.

Thank You For 70 Years Of Memories

Saying farewell to your favorite spots in Central Texas is always hard, but it does allow new businesses to become part of something great. After 70 years, though, I’m not exactly sure who’s going to be able to fill the shoes of the Cove Theatre.
