I’m sure there are other places besides Texas that have snakes. I won’t be visiting those states anytime soon. Anybody who knows me knows even though I am a diehard Texan when it comes to Rattlesnake Roundups, fried rattlesnakes, or even a garden snake I want no part of it. I’m so petrified of snakes. I make Indiana Jones look like an advocate for the slithering reptile. Now that it is summertime here in Texas the snakes are definitely out and about.

SNAKES, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE SNAKES?

You could find yourself fishing and all of a sudden they’re slithering up on the banks, you could possibly find them sitting right on your doorstep trying to allow their scaly bellies to feel the cool night air. Just thinking about snakes makes my skin crawl. I think my problem with snakes would be that they don’t have legs, you don’t hear them creeping up on you, and not to mention they’re very dangerous. Of course, there are some snakes that are not venomous like garden snakes and chicken snakes but in my opinion, in Texas, a snake is a snake keep it away from me! According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram, not even a rattlesnake, should be the one you’re worried about if you’re scared of a venomous bite.

The coral snake, whose colors are red, and yellow is the most venomous snake found in Texas according to state wildlife officials. This particular snake is known to be actually very shy and doesn’t go looking for trouble, and there are very rare reports of coral snake bites, but keep in mind if this snake decides to attack you it is very toxic and deadly. What’s really scary about the coral snake bite is it does affect you like other snake bites. A coral bite has very little pain or swelling, and any symptoms may not appear for hours. Keep in mind once a coral snake's symptoms do appear they progress very rapidly. There is euphoria and drowsiness followed by nausea, vomiting, headache, difficulty breathing, and finally paralysis. It’s also estimated that the human fatality rate caused by coral snake venom approaches 10%. If you find yourself being bitten by a coral snake I would suggest immediately rushing to the hospital, this snakebite left untreated in a 24-hour time span could be fatal!
