As reported by FOX 44, places of business in the city of Belton have alerted police to a growing issue in the area. Unidentified individuals are calling them, and saying they are with the Belton Police Department, when in truth they are not. But how will one in Belton know that the fraudsters are contacting them?

FOX 44 revealed that the plan involves the person on the phone telling the worker to take funds from the register and put it onto a card that involves cash apps.

The department stated that a request like this will never come from them. Not only do they suggest outright ignoring calls like this, they also encourage one to report the call to the police themselves at 254-933-5840.
