This Day In Music: “Rapper’s Delight” Enters The Pop Charts
There are a bunch of folks who like to argue about the day hip hop made it into the "mainstream" in the late 70's and early 80's but on THIS date (January 5th), The Sugarhill Gang, consisting of Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank and Master Gee, took "Rapper's Delight" into the Billboard Top 40, officially making it the first hip hop song to reach that level on the pop charts. Go ahead and start "break dancing" in the office to this classic track!
