The City Of Killeen, TX Opens Up Cooling Centers For Residents To Avoid Excruciating Heat Index
The heat in Central Texas has been a challenge for residents to adapt to. I recently wrote an article on how the dangers of the heat index will be as high as 112°F this week. The City of Killeen released a statement letting all city residents know that cooling centers are available as the heat index increases.
WHERE CAN RESIDENTS GO TO COOL OFF?
The Friends in Crisis shelter located at 412 E. Sprott t St. is open as a cooling center any day. The forecast indicates that midday temperatures will reach at least 100°F. The doors will open at 1 PM and they will remain open overnight. Killeen shelters close every morning after breakfast at approximately 7 AM to provide the staff with time to clean the facility. They offer a climate-controlled environment with water and meals to anyone in need. If you’re interested in contacting the shelter, call 254-245-8269.
STAY SAFE AND COOL OF KILLEEN
The city of Killeen wants to remind residents that the city's buildings are always open to the public and available during each facility's normal business hours. This will include, the libraries, the family recreation centers, the north precinct police department, Police headquarters, City Hall, etc. This heat in Texas is well known for its aggressive heat waves, but please keep in mind that it can be deadly! I believe it is essential to express gratitude to the city of Killeen for ensuring that our community is well cared for. Stay cool out there Texas.
