Texas Mom Who Murdered 5 Of Own Children Is Rejecting The Chance Of Release

There are so many questions I have for Andrea Yates, the Texas woman who killed her children by drowning each one of these innocent babies in 2001. This very high-profile case hit a soft spot for individuals here in the great state realizing each one of her children wasn’t even over the age of 10. Noah, who was seven years old, John five years old, Paul, three years old, Luke, who was two years old and then there was six months old Mary, who was drowned one by one.

According to the New York Post after drowning each child, Andrea called 911 to report the death of her children and then called her husband who was a NASA engineer, and urged him to come home from work. Andrea ended up being charged with five counts of Capitol murder and her defense argued that she suffered from severe depression and psychosis. As a result caused her to kill her kids. The defense argues that Andrea was sent out to intensive mental health treatment rather than prison, but she was initially convicted of murder and was sentenced to behind bars for the rest of her life. Andrea argued that the death of her children was needed to save each one of them from internal domination. She explained how her children weren’t righteous, and they were going to stumble into evil because of the way that she was raising her children.

"They could never be saved, and they were going to be doomed to perish in the fires of hell" Yates explained. Even though Yates is eligible for a hearing to determine her sanity, that doesn’t mean she’ll be released and she could spend the rest of her life in the facility. She talks to now her ex-husband monthly despite the divorce; even though he has remarried, it seems this woman is content. George Parham, who is her defense attorney has always referred to Andrea Yates as happy and thriving in Kerrville. This is the only place she’s called home in the last 17 years and she is where she wants to be and where she needs to be to say hypothetically what would she do, Parham says. Should this woman be held accountable?
