A man from Bryan was recently arrested in Washington, DC and was found carrying a deadly weapon near the U.S. Naval Observatory, the traditional home of the Vice President.

According to a report from KENS5, Paul Murray, 31, was arrested on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

The Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded at approximately 12:12 p.m. to the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, in reference to a suspicious person based on an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas. Murray was arrested at approximately 1 PM in the same vicinity.

Murray was found with an AR-15, 113 rounds of unregistered ammunition, and five high-capacity magazines.

ABC13 reports that Murray's mother was concerned about his behavior after he had made statements that worried her. FOX5 states she reached out to Capitol Police after her son stated that he was in D.C. to "take care of his problem."

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office released a lengthy statement in which they reported having been in contact with Murray for two week per the request of his family due to his behavior. Although they found no evidence of a crime at the time, they did continue to monitor him due to his behavior and statements, and because they believed he might be in possession of weapons.

When deputies working with Murray's family and health care providers to obtain a mental health evaluation learned that he might be traveling to D.C., they informed federal law enforcement.

While Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff have not yet moved into the U.S. Naval Observatory, the act this man appears to have planned is alarming.
