
Feb. 13: This Day in Black History
Here are some of the milestone events that have happened on February 13th in black history.
- 1892: The first African American performers appear at Carnegie Hall in the World's Fair Colored Opera.
- 1923: The first black professional basketball team was formed, The Renaissance.
- 1957: The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was organized at a New Orleans meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr. as president.
- 1970: Joseph Searles was the first black member admitted to the New York Stock Exchange.
