Motivational Mondays: You Don’t Have to Struggle With Depression Alone
I always give serious though to what I am going to write about for motivational Monday. Today, I want to talk about depression.
I am usually a positive thinking person. I try to get along with everyone. If you meet me, I'm in a good mood 99% of the time. I am human though, so I do go through challenges with family and friends, even at work.
But I try to take these challenges on with a positive thinking approach with a growth mindset.
Before I started with My Kiss 103.1, I felt depressed and really didn't know why so I didn't express it with my wife or anybody that I am closed to.
I finally told my wife how I was feeling and eventually got out of that funk with my wife's help.
But some might not have someone they can talk to that they trust to speak with openly.
One of our friends in the DJ industry took his life this past week, and it saddened me because I didn't know he was going through anything. Every time I saw him, he greeted me with a smile like everything was ok.
The news came along with the passing of DMX and Funkmaster Flex saying that the hip hop community was not helping DMX through his struggles.
The thing is, we never know what someone is going through.
My motivation for you is to move past your fear of talking about your depression if you've been struggling. Reach out to family and friends, or if you're not quite ready for that yet or feel you don't have anyone to talk to, give the SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
It very hard to go through depression without a good support team. Just know that your life is valuable and you deserve a chance to work through this struggle and find joy.
