Killeen’s “Walk Shops” Help You Give Feedback On The City

Everyone's got an opinion about Killeen and how it could improve, so how can we make those changes happen?

Walk With Me, Talk With Me

The City of Killeen is having a series of workshops where residents meet with city staff to walk through the neighborhoods and talk about anything they like or dislike

The initiative is a part of Killeen's new comprehensive plan accepting feedback from its citizens.

Yesterday, in downtown Killeen, a walk shop occurred where a dozen Killeen residents and staff members walked the streets about and gave their input about the downtown area.

Killeen Could Use Some TLC

Anyone who has traveled to downtown Killeen can see that it needs help.

In my opinion, a few apartment complexes need to be built, a movie theater, or even a big box store such as Walmart or another HEB, something needs to be done to provide excitement and to revitalize the economy.

Local businesses in tune with what people in Killeen want will also be crucial.

Albert Galbrath, a Killeen citizen, told KWTX there's a need for Killeen residents to take advantage of shops and businesses downtown. But the concern is that there aren't as many options, so residents flock to either Waco or Austin for activities.

Keep Local Dollars in Killeen

Louie Minor, member of the comprehensive planning committee and planning and zoning commission for Killeen, says that "they owe it to the citizens of Killeen to capture those dollars."

More Chances to Walk and Talk Coming This Week

Other walk-up shops for community input have been announced for Tuesday at:

Yowell Ranch 8 – 10 a.m. Greyfriar Drive at Shimla Drive in Jasper Heights from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

They will also be at Donnie Avenue at Mockingbird Lane and then at  Alamocitos 5 – 7 p.m. Alamocitos Creek Drive at Bunny Trail.

Then tomorrow, Wednesday, June 30, the walk shops will be held in North Killeen from 8 – 10 a.m. Whitlow Drive at Williamson Drive and then at  Thunder Creek 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Thunder Creek Drive at Waterfall Drive.

Do your job by informing city officials what you would change about the great city of Killeen to make it an even better place to live and do business.
