Almost a month ago, it was reported that some teachers in the state of Texas may have gotten their licenses for teaching illegally. Now, the amount of teachers affected has been revealed. Here's what is known at the time of writing.

Details About The Case

The case began in October of 2024. The Harris County District Attorney, according to ABC13 Houston, brought forth allegations towards Vincent Grayson. Grayson, who was a Houston ISD basketball coach, was alleged to have been "the kingpin" of the scheme.

The scheme worked like this as described by ABC13 Houston: the potential teacher would provide the funds for someone to take the teaching certification test for them. Two other individuals acted as overseers of the test, and they were also connected to the fraud as a whole.

ABC13 Houston revealed that 102 teachers are currently accused of having false certificates. However, that number may continue to grow depending on further findings from the Texas Education Agency. Various parts of Texas are also affected by this.

Teachers reported to be involved are currently located in Central Texas, the area of Dallas-Fort Worth, plus East Texas as well. This revelation has not sat well with other teachers in the state, as Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Texas Tech University, Jacob Kirksey told ABC13 Houston:

"It's really disheartening...As an educator, you would not want your own students to cheat, and so I think it's a bit ironic that we have teachers who are willing to pay someone else to sit and take a test, particularly when that test is intended to measure some really important things that you should be able to know and do in your classroom."

As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
