Thankfully, the brutal summer heat is starting to wind down as we head into fall and its the perfect time to get outside and get to know your fellow neighbors in Copperas Cove.

The Copperas Cove Police Department will be helping you get to know your neighbors and build up community awareness about crime with its 22nd annual National Night Out Kick Off Party happening Saturday September 28th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM in downtown Copperas Cove at Avenue E and South Main Street.

There's going to be lots of fun activities for kids and adults with door prizes throughout the evening. Some of the events are at no charge and others are priced at only .25 cents each. McGruff the Crime Dog, Eddie Eagle, and H-E-Buddy will all also be at the party. An impaired driving peddle-cart course which was donated by State Farm will be unveiled during the event. The goal of the impairment course is to teach about the dangers of driving impaired. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, popcorn, ice cream, and soft drinks will also be served.

The kick off party will also share information on how you can join in on the 36th Annual National Night Out which will happen on Tuesday, October 1 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

For the 22nd consecutive year we are asking residents in neighborhoods to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. -Sgt. Kevin Miller CCPD
