Police In Belton Looking Into Local Graveyard Robberies

Visiting a loved one's grave in a graveyard is never an easy moment in one's life. Remembering them and the person not being there is simply tough to describe. But when the grave is defaced, it brings both anger and sadness. The city of Belton has recently noticed an uptick in grave robbing issues, but can something be done?

When Did These Robberies Begin In Belton?

According to KWTX, this problem has been happened for a long time. One visitor of the cemetery, Kristie Whites makes her way to North Belton Cemetery weekly to pay respects at her father's grave. But, the theft over the years in graveyard hasn't left her happy.

Instead, it's left her upset at the unknown individuals taking items without permission. Per Whites:

“Like, what kind of person steals from a family’s grave? Who does that? Obviously not a good person. At first I was angry, then sad, but now, I’m done staying quiet.”

Has Whites Alerted Authorities To The Situation?

Whites isn't the only one suffering from these robberies. She told KWTX that others in the area are ready to put to stop to them:

“People have told me their kids are buried here...“I believe we can get involved and invest in maintaining this historic space. It’s not just about history, it’s about our loved ones. They deserve better.”

Whites has reached to multiple agencies including Belton police, the Texas Historical Commission, and even the property managers of the graveyard to end the theft. Belton law enforcement also has been alerted to the most recent robbery at the graveyard and have begun inquiries.
