The city of Belton is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Josiah Alcozer who was shot and killed on December 30 at approximately 8:13 p.m., according to KCENT.

Authorities stated that Josiah and several other individuals were handling a firearm inside a home when it accidentally discharged, striking Josiah in the head. He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, officers confirmed that the 17-year-old died on Saturday, January 3.

Belton Police Chief Larry Berg expressed condolences, stating that his heart goes out to Josiah’s family and friends. He added that this tragic incident serves as a reminder that guns must be handled with the utmost care.
