Officials have seen just about everything, but this takes the cake...and the pumpkin pie.

Unique Drug Bust at Texas Border

On Tuesday, officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection found some suspicious Halloween decorations that just didn't seem right.

There was a good reason for their suspicions. 44 pounds of liquid meth was hidden inside condoms, which were packaged into pumpkins, like a bizarre illegal turducken. The discovery was made at a port of entry in Eagle Pass, Texas, when officials searched a 2012 Ford Escape arriving from Mexico, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

136 condoms inside four pumpkins were located within the SUV, which contained $402,196 worth of alleged liquid methamphetamine. The drugs were seized, along with the vehicle, while the driver and passenger were turned over to the custody of Maverick County Sheriff’s Office deputies for further investigation.

Acting Eagle Pass Port Director Elizabeth Garduno praised the agents involved, saying: “They utilized their training, experience, interviewing skills and uncovered a rather novel narcotics smuggling method in the process.”

2022 Drug Busts at Texas Border

Odd hiding spots for drugs seems to be a thing lately. In August, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered over 1,500 pounds of cocaine hidden in another unexpected place: a shipment of baby wipes.

That drug bust happened at the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge, according to a news release. The bridge, located on the U.S.-Mexico border, connects Laredo, Texas over the Rio Grande with the Mexican state of Nuevo León.
