A thief stole a car with a 4-year-old boy inside, but returned the child to his mother and taught her a lesson along the way.

According to a report from KPTV, Crystal Leary from Oregon left her 4-year-old son in her car while she ran inside to the meat market. While inside the store, Leary's vehicle was stolen with her son inside.

Luckily for Leary, the carjacker realized that he took more than he intended and brought the boy back to the store. Leary said that the man scolded her inside the store, demanded that she take her son out of the vehicle, threatened to call the police, and then once again stole her car.

I don't know what year Leary is living in, but it's 2021 and we don't leave children unattended in vehicles. I really don't understand the logic at all. It does not matter if you will "only be a few minutes," leaving a child alone in any vehicle is dangerous.

This rule has been repeated so many times, yet parents, babysitters, and other guardians continue to do it. Can someone please explain why?

DO NOT LEAVE PEOPLE, PLANTS, or PETS unattended in vehicles. It's pretty simple.

I know I'm supposed to be mad at the thief, but sheesh Leary is making it difficult. Thank goodness something worse didn't happen to her son.

Police are on the hunt for Leary's vehicle - a 2013 silver Honda Pilot with Oregon plates 357GLV.
