But according to KXXV Waco, 36-year-old Kristen Marie Spearman appears to have misunderstood the rules of marriage. Spearman was arrested for allegedly staging a fake marriage and leaving falsified documents on her ex-boyfriend’s property, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department. Authorities reported that the victim, a 42-year-old man, discovered a gift basket on his doorstep. Inside the basket were several items, including two documents and a suspicious product.

One of the documents was a photograph of Kristen Marie Spearman holding what appeared to be a marriage license, along with a certified copy filed with the county clerk. Police said the two individuals had previously been in a relationship and had applied for a marriage license earlier in the month. However, following a dispute, the 42-year-old man ended the relationship and stated he no longer wished to marry Spearman.

Investigators later discovered that Spearman may have convinced a local reverend to officiate the marriage without the victim's presence or consent—an act that authorities described as deeply troubling. After allegedly obtaining the necessary signatures, she reportedly filed the certificate with the county clerk and then delivered the documents, along with the photo, to the victim’s home. Spearman was arrested at her residence on a warrant for third-degree felony stalking and is currently booked in McLennan County Jail. Police are withholding the identity of the victim to prevent potential harassment as the investigation continues.
