Where Will You Be Celebrating National Fried Chicken Day?
National Fried Chicken Day, celebrated on July 6th in the United States, is a day when chicken lovers rejoice with some crispy bird at their favorite restaurant, at home, or on a picnic.
Immigrants from Scotland brought their tradition of deep-frying chicken in fat to the South. Fried chicken soon became a staple in the American South after its introduction. Seasonings and spices were added to the chicken over time to enhance its flavor.
Fried chicken is a dish that consists of floured or battered pieces of chicken that are pan-fried, deep-fried, or pressure-fried. The breading adds a crisp coating to the chicken's exterior.
Some may find it difficult to achieve a good crisp on their chicken. However, the best cooks will tell you that the key to the crispiest fried chicken is to season well and early in the cooking process, add starch to the flour, and fry your chicken at the right temperature.
Oil should be 300°F.
Allow the chicken to rest before serving so that the juices can be absorbed back into the meat. When we allow the chicken to rest, it will become more tender, just like beef and pork.
I am a fan of fried chicken even though I know it's not good for me, so I eat in moderation these days.
With the fried chicken sandwich wars between all the fast-food establishments around the country today, Popeyes has a promotion one free chicken sandwich with a $10 purchase.
Today I will observe #nationalfriedchickenday. Unfortunately, I don't know which establishment I will purchase from today. Hopefully, I can persuade my wife to fry some this evening.
What I do know is that I will have to get some southern fried chicken wings from Chief's Sports Grill in Killeen this weekend!
