A couple of my favorite events just got cancelled due to COVID-19.

KCEN reports that the City of Waco has pulled the plug on a couple of great summer activities - the 2020 Brazos Nights concert series and Fourth on the Brazos celebration.

These free events take place in downtown Waco along the Brazos River are always a great time.

The cancellation was announced on Wednesday during Waco Mayor Kyle Deaver's press conference Deaver also said. “We must continue to be extremely vigilant about physical distancing from anyone who’s not in your household, the use of face coverings, especially in crowded businesses, and regular hand-washing or sanitizing.”

The decision to cancel the Summer events are based on the need to continue social distancing.

The city parks department are looking at ways to still hold smaller gatherings, but for now, nothing is planned for a 4th of July celebration.

You can watch Wednesday's virtual press conference below. Other topics discussed include the city's ongoing COVID-19 response and concerns about a new wave of cases as the state opens up - particularly, asymptomatic spread.
