Transgender Military Service Banned Under New Law
Last month, President Trump signed an executive order that impacts transgender soldiers in the United States, according to NBC News. The order specifies that the U.S. military will no longer allow transgender individuals to enlist and will stop performing or facilitating gender transition-related procedures for service members. This was outlined in a memo from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, submitted to the court on Monday.

This means that transgender individuals will not be able to enlist, re-enlist, or have any gender transition procedures covered by military insurance. Hegseth stated that, effective immediately, all new requests from individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are on hold. Additionally, all scheduled or planned medical procedures related to gender transition for service members are paused.

Hegseth emphasized that individuals with gender dysphoria who are already in the military would still be treated with dignity and respect. The Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness will provide further details on how this will be implemented. It has been reported that up to 15,000 transgender individuals may be affected, although the actual number of transgender service members is much lower.
