On this day 12 years ago, Fort Hood, Texas witnessed one of the most heinous and disrespectful acts of senseless violence in American history.

A terrorist by the name of Nidal Hussan, a United States soldier himself, betrayed his country and his fellow soldiers when he opened fire inside a readiness center on base. By the time he was wounded and stopped, he'd killed 13 people and wounded 32.

I will never forget that day. I had never been so scared in my life. You never think that things like this can happen where you live, but they definitely can.

I remember my husband being on Fort Hood as officials were shutting it down and not telling him anything. I was so worried for him due to the fact that I did not know what was going on until we found out that there was an actual terroristic act on base.

It truly pains me to even write this article, but it also makes me want to remember the soldiers and civilians that were wounded and murdered that day.

It's important that we never forget this day, and that we honor and remember those who lost their lives that day or were badly hurt by someone who was supposed to be one of their own.

God bless America and God Bless Fort Hood. We will never forget.
