According to  Texas News, Austin, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Monday, July 22 that the Texas Health and Human Services received approval to allow the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program also known as SNAP to purchase food and ready-to-eat meals with their benefits.

36 different counties that were impacted by Hurricane Beryl will receive this advantage. Governor Abbott stated that as a community recovers from the hurricane Texas continues to work to ensure the impact Texans have access to fresh, quality food, and without power outages still being affected, this federal approval for 36 counties will help eligible Texans, purchase hot ready to eat meals for themselves and their families.

US Department of Agriculture, food and nutrition supplies services have approved Angelina, Austin, Brazier, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harding, Harris, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Lavaca, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Nacogdoches, Montgomery, Newton, Orange, Polk,  Sabine, Saint Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Victoria, Walker, Wharton, and Waller County for receiving the SNAP benefits. Governor Abbott also stated that he would like to thank the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for their work to provide fresh healthy food for our following fellow Texans in need. The SNAP recipient of these particular counties can also request snap replacement benefits and more information. Texans will need to visit the HHSC receiving disaster assistant page.
