This Temple 9-Year-Old Leads Her City in Charitable Spirit
We did Hometown Hero a little differently this month.
Nine-year-old Peyton Miller, a student at Troy Elementary and a Temple native, has already given back to the less fortunate more than many people will in a lifetime. I have in my hands eight full pages of charities, fundraisers and donation collections that she has been a part of in the last two years or so.
Mom and Veteran, Holly Miller, certainly encourages her kids to give back and helps organize as well as provide transportation, but it's Peyton who often chooses who to give back to. And she spends her own money to boot.
"I was involved in giving back as a child and my children will have the same values," said Holly, a proud mom of two kids that flourish at the notion of charity.
I met with Peyton while she and her mom were on a donation run to both Hope Pregnancy Center in Temple and the Temple Fire Department where C.E.R.T. is collecting donations for victims of the Baton Rouge floods. They had a truckload of great stuff ranging from Peyton's old crib (she volunteered it), blankets, clothes for kids ages 0-10, car seats. Let's just say it took a while to get everything off the truck.
That's when I learned that Peyton was giving to C.E.R.T. after hearing about it from Wes Adams on US105. According to her and her mother, Peyton heard it on the radio and turned to her mom saying, "We have to collect donations for them!"
Peyton's accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. Pure International Pageants awarded her Jr. Ultimate Sweetheart Queen - and she's the only one in the state. This was no easy task, however. Last year Peyton accumulated over 3,000 points in community service. Peyton, her mother and her brother made an imprint on Bell County last year as they gave massive amounts of clothing they collected and cleaned to six different shelters and McClane's Children's Hospital. She has donated her services (cleaning setup, food prep) to Troy United Methodist Church and trust me, the list goes on and on.
We are proud to call Peyton Miller our Hometown Hero! Keep up the amazing work young lady!
Teleperformance and Townsquare Media are proud to recognize this young lady as a Hometown Hero and present her and her mother with the Hometown Hero certificate of appreciation and a $50 gift card to Pignetti’s Italian Restaurant.
