A West Texas woman stands accused of a horrific crime against her own child.

KWTX shared a report from KOSA-TV about 36-year-old Shirley Harmon from Ector County, who was recently arrested for allowing a 62-year-old man to sexually assault her 5-year-old daughter for $400.

The Odessa American reports that Shirley Harmon was charged Sunday with aggravated assault on a child, which is a first-degree felony.

Harmon was arrested earlier in the month on March 4th on a child endangerment charge - a second-degree felony. This charge was for Harmon's failure to report to the Ector County Sheriff's Office that her daughter was being sexually abused by 62-year-old Gary Landreth.

Landreth was in custody on January 14th, but was released 10 days later after posting bond. The assaults of the 5-year-old daughter happened from 2017 all the way to as recent as January 7, 2019.

When Harmon was interviewed by the authorities, she admitted to knowing that her daughter was being sexually assaulted by Landreth and that allowed it to continue.

Harmon remains in custody at the Ector Law Enforcemnt Center with a bond that totals $50,000.

It's unbelievable and heartbreaking that a woman would allow these unspeakable things to happen to her child with her awareness and consent. If you suspect a child is being subjected to abuse, please contact your local police. There's absolutely no excuse for allowing things like this to happen.
