Woman In Texas Attempts To Smuggle Mexican Children Into US, Now In Prison
An individual from the state of Texas made an effort to try and illegally bring Mexican children in the United States. She is now in prison for her actions. Here's what is known at the time of writing.
How Was The Crime First Discovered?
Per WKRG, The incident took place on August 8th, 2024. Sandra Perez was driving into Laredo with five children in her vehicle. Of the five children in the car, three of them belonged to Perez, while two of the children were Mexican. Perez, when stopped by Border Patrol agents, gave documentation for the two Mexican children in the car.
The documents given however, which were Texas birth certificates and Social Security cards, were faulty and not legal. This resulted in Border Patrol agents starting an inquiry by talking to the two children in question. When the children didn't respond to the agents, Perez confessed to her attempt to bring the children into the United States unlawfully.

In addition, she revealed that she was to compensated for bringing the children into the United States dishonestly, with each child set to gain her $5,000 each.
What Was The Punishment For Perez?
Nicholas Genjei, A U.S Attorney, said of Perez's actions:
“Smuggling children is absolutely reprehensible...Who knows what awaited these children had the defendant managed to slip past authorities. Fortunately, law enforcement was able to unravel Perez’s false story and stop her smuggling scheme dead in its tracks.”
On November 19th, 2024 Perez stated her guilt in a court of law. Her penalty was three years in prison.
