Very High Egg Prices Causing Smuggling Attempts at Texas-Mexico Border
Prices of eggs have been growing higher and higher as time goes on. Eggs have reached a point in price that some stores in Texas have put restrictions on how many one can take home. But the issues with eggs overall aren't just with trying to buy them.
What Other Problems Have Appeared In Regards To Eggs In Texas?
As revealed by Fortune, the Texas-Mexico border is seeing a growth of attempts of people trying to illegally bring one item into the United States. Per a release from U.S Customs and Border Protection, eggs have become an item for people to try and bring into the US without permission.
Further details revealed by the CBP shows that person trying to illegally bring eggs into the United States rose 29% during the months of October 2024 and February 2025. The price of eggs has also affected not only people, but businesses that also sell eggs with food have increased prices as well.

Is There Anything Being Done To Try And Bring Down The Price?
Per The Pandemic Center Director at Brown University School of Public Health, Jennifer Nuzzo, the problem is very well known, as told to Fortune:
“Everybody knows about the price of eggs. Everybody knows how hard it is to even find eggs in the grocery store...Understanding how H5N1 is affecting animal populations is essential for protecting our agricultural interests.”
To that end, Fortune reported that the United States is getting assistance from Turkey. 420 million eggs from Turkey are set to be brought to the US. Some are still concerned though that it won't be able to deal with the main problem at hand, which is the bird flu.
If and when egg prices will potentially go down is unknown at the time of writing.
