Stop Guessing! The Official Texas State Snack Has Been Decided
Sweet and salty, hot and sweet, rich and creamy—I don’t really care how I get a snack, it just needs to hit one or two of those notes. A good snack and a good brew can make or break a hosting situation. If youre hosting a bunch of friends, you have to make sure the snacks are top-tier.

Am I saying snacks are more important than the drinks? Sure. Anybody can pour themselves a glass of wine, take a shot, or grab a beer, but the snack is what people talk about at the end of the night—well, at least in my house.
What is now the state of Texas state Snack?
According to Where Texas Stands Today, there’s one snack that has been officially adopted as the state snack. On June 22, 2003, Margo Elementary School in Mission, Texas, contacted state representative Kino Flores about designating this particular snack as the official one. The snack? Tortilla chips and salsa—already a staple in the great state of Texas and wildly popular across the region.
Where to Find the Best Version of Texas’ Newly Official State Snack
You can’t go to a restaurant, especially a Tex-Mex or Mexican place, without being served chips and salsa. It’s one of my go-to snacks when I don’t want to eat too heavy but still want something satisfying. Not to mention, chips and salsa go well with anything. You could be eating spaghetti for your entrée, and chips and salsa before the meal still feel right. Maybe it’s the Texan in me that knows chips and salsa were always destined to be our state snack.
So next time you’re at your favorite Mexican restaurant, remember—you’re doing it the true Texas way when you dive into the chips and salsa that hit the table. Ask for seconds while you’re at it.
