Texas Officials Find $4 Million in Methamphetamine Hidden in Cucumber Pickles

A shipment crossing the border into Texas had more than fresh produce on board.

According to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, on April 17, CBP field officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility found $4 million in methamphetamine hidden in a trailer of fresh cucumber pickles.

First of all, I don't even know what a cucumber pickle is. I know that pickles are made of cucumbers, but what's a cucumber pickle? Is that just the full name for pickle? A Google search led me to recipes of pickled cucumbers, but I'm still pretty confused.

Anyways, something must've been suspicious about these cucumber pickles because it was decided they needed a more thorough examination. CBP officers ran the produce through a non-intrusive imaging (NII) system inspection and found more than pickles inside.

Officers discovered 114 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 217 pounds (98.5 kg) concealed within the trailer.

“This substantial quantity of hard narcotics will not make its final destination in the United States,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This interdiction reinforces our officers’ role in advancing CBP’s border security mission by preventing dangerous drugs from entering and negatively impacting our communities.”

CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the tractor/trailer. The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

No word on what happened to the cucumber pickles. I guess they're guilty by association and were most likely thrown out. Maybe a lucky officer now has a lifetime supply of cucumber pickles. On second thought, maybe not.
