
Texas Border Smuggling Crisis: Record-Breaking Drug Seizures
One of the largest drug busts in Texas has occurred as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility intercepted $19,800,000 worth of methamphetamine and $144,000 worth of heroin concealed in a shipment disguised as cucumbers and jalapeños. This is a significant amount of drugs and money.

On February 4, officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility were assigned to investigate a tractor-trailer making an entry from Mexico. The tractor-trailer was selected for inspection, which included the use of non-intrusive inspection technology. During the inspection, officers discovered 26 packages of heroin weighing 7.53 pounds and 8,206 packages of methamphetamine, totaling 2,217.85 pounds, concealed within the shipment. CBP detained the narcotics and the trailer, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents initiated the investigation
